Far be it from me to jump upon the rumor bandwagon, namely the most recent slew of them going around about Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s recent cryptic Tweet regarding playing a superhero on the big screen. However, – and this is a big however – it is being reported by sources within the film industry that this past weekend, while obviously inebriated at a Hollywood party, The Rock made it perfectly clear that he would be playing DC’s most infamous B-character, Lobo, in an upcoming film.
This coming just weeks after I posted a blog about what superheroes would be played by what modern day professional wrestlers. Can you imagine my missing this one? Well, yes. It’s hardly an obvious choice.
While I’m not sure that now is the time for DC to start pulling out their B-characters, I’m sure they’re desperate giving the success of Joss Whedon’s The Avengers. I’m sure they’re aware that a Justice League series comparable to that of The Avengers build won’t gain the same amount of success, therefore, it just may be time to introduce some more adult characters from their vault in order to compete. If there’s one thing Marvel has always had over DC, it’s their adult themed series, and with very few exceptions, DC has mainly kept to pandering toward children. Lobo is an obvious exception to this rule, along with all of Alan Moore’s DC work.
Maybe the time is right, and maybe it’s not, but it’s this blogger’s opinion that The Rock would in no uncertain terms, make a very poor Lobo, no matter how the series is changed for the silver screen.
