I posted last night that The Avengers is still smashing records in its fifth weekend at the box office. Today, Marvel’s runaway hit managed not only to pull ahead of Dark Knight domestically, as was predicted, with $538,116,000 domestic, but also pulled ahead of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 in worldwide sales, with $1,331,300,000. When I posted last night’s Avengers box office update, I wasn’t sure if it would beat out Harry Potter in worldwide sales, but my skepticism was fruitless, it would appear.
Congrats to everyone who worked on this fantastic movie. But you do realize, you are really going to have to step up your A-game for any movies that follow, including 2013’s Iron Man 3 and 2014’s Thor 2.
